Commodity and Project Experience
Copper
- Anglo American Base Metals. Implemented and led the ongoing series of rolling audits for Mantoverde open pit copper (Chile), Loma de Níquel open pit lateritic nickel (Venezuela), Lisheen underground zinc-lead (Ireland), El Soldado open pit copper (Chile), Skorpion open pit zinc-lead (Namibia), and Los Bronces open pit copper (Chile).
- Antofagasta Metals. Study Leader for the expansion study of Minera Las Pelambres, a large open pit copper mine, in which a major integrated study was carried out to define the optimal project development strategy under constraints including tailings placement, hydrogeology, hydrology, environmental permitting, and social impact.
- Codelco. Study Leader for the pre-audit technical review of the Codelco copper operations which evaluated the resources, ore reserves, mining parameters, and production performance to define the value of Codelco Corporation. Also led the exploratory and definitive planning study for the Salvador block caving and open pit copper mining operations.
Gold
- Lynas Gold NL. Developed the geological modelling for the Mt. Olympus Feasibility Study resource estimation of the Mt. Olympus gold project near Paraburdoo, Western Australia. The ore reserve estimate was subsequently supported by the development and implementation of grade control procedures including the optimisation of ore blocking using conditional simulation.
- Delta Gold NL. Developed the geological modelling for the Golden Feather Feasibility Study resource estimation of four deposits comprising the Golden Feather Project, near Kalgoorlie, Western Australia. Subsequently reviewed the grade control procedures and, in particular, the optimisation of ore blocking procedures using conditional simulation.
- Sr. Barbara Minerals. Led the feasibility study aspects for the Paulsens Deposit of resource and ore reserve estimation that included legacy data recovery, resource estimation, ore reserve estimation, open pit and underground mine planning studies, grade control studies, and conditional simulation to model expected mining dilution. The project was deferred following a corporate takeover.
Iron Ore
- Magnetite Iron Project - Western Australia. Project Director for engineering consultant's involvement in the development of this major project. The work involved auditing, estimation of resources, establishment of the development drilling operations comprising a camp of 80 people, supervision of drilling, data collection and database systems, geophysical surveys, development of safety protocols, technical resolution of issues, coordination of geotechnical and rock mechanics studies, development of full GIS support for the client, and liaison with the client’s environmental, project construction, and social impact teams.
